The Kumtag meteorite strewn field

The Kumtag meteorite strewn field was found in the desert, 132 km south of Hami city Xinjiang province, China. It is an ellipse 2.5 × 7.9 km, with a long axis extending along northeast-southwest direction. largest individual weighs about 10 kg; smallest has mass only 27 g. In total, more than 100 individuals total 180 kg were collected. location and distribution fragments suggest that meteoroid entered atmosphere direction Northeast-Southwest. All meteorites collected this are samples from same unique shower. H5 ordinary chondrite shock stage S2, weathering grade W2. cosmic ray exposure age 6.7 ± 0.8 Ma, which rather typical for H chondrites indicates derived massive impact event on its parent body ~7 Ma ago.
